Let's talk about model teams!
Hey there! If you're a high school student who has ever thought about your senior pictures, you may have heard about joining a model team. And I'm sure there are those of you who are right now thinking, what the heck is a model team and why would I want to join one? So, for those of you in the know and those of you who are just learning about them, I am here to give you the low-down on all the things you need to know about model teams.
What is a Senior Model Team (or Senior Rep Program) - Frisco, Texas?
In its simplest form, a model team is a group of upcoming high school seniors that form an agreement with a photographer. You will typically sign up with that photographer to do your senior portraits and in addition to that receive some other added benefits such as group shoots with other seniors that have joined the team, mini shoots, impromptu shoots, and sometimes added incentives for spreading the word about your experience. In most cases, you will apply to be on a model team sometime during your junior year.
Why would I join a model team?
Being on model team is for the senior who wants something extra from their senior portrait experience. Being on a model team can give you the opportunity to have multiple senior pictures taken at different times during the year instead of just a single session. Many times, you get to be part of a fun "styled" or "themed" photo shoot which will give you a much different look than you would get from your personal senior portrait session. You get meet and have fun with other seniors who join the team. Additionally, you will get to know your senior photographer better so that hopefully you will be much more relaxed during your own senior session. Senior year isn't just a single day so why should your senior portrait experience be only one day?
Do I get paid to be on a senior model team?
When you sign up to be on a model team it is not the same as being a paid professional model. In most cases there is no monetary payment to be on a team. The experience is part of the reward along with all the awesome photos you will have taken. And it's fun!
Are senior model teams free to join?
This can depend on the team you join. Some photographers will charge a fee just to be on the team and others may only require you to book your senior picture session with them. Other things to consider when signing up for a team, what are the expectations? Because you will be receiving perks in addition to your senior portrait session, you may also be required to post images on your social media or refer other people to gain discounts on your session. All teams are different, and it is important to ask what the requirements are.
Do I have to wait to be a senior to be on a model team?
No! Many photographers have "junior" model teams. This usually does not mean you need to be a high school junior but rather an underclassman. This is perfect for anyone who loves to have their photo taken and wants to get creative with a photographer before your senior year. This can also help you decide what kind of look you like best when planning your own senior portrait session!
